It’s
time to re-think about your Talent. You can be a talented introvert or a
talented extrovert like in Art, Tech, Social, etc.
Your talents need not be profitable or useful, but they will always be your own, a part of what makes you into you.
Learning
to look for your talents in the right places and building those talents into
skills and abilities might take some work.
But
going about it creatively will let you explore your natural abilities and find
your talents.
Here’re some methods that can help you look for your talent & building them…
Let’s Begin
#1 Stop Waiting For Talents To Appear
You
can’t know if you’ve got a talent for guitar if you never try to play guitar.
Find
a talent that seems cool and learn everything you can about it. Find out what
it takes and see what you've got.
Remember,
if you never try, you'll never know. You can only find your natural abilities,
skills and talents when you actively seek new experiences.
Face
down obstacles and seek out challenges to see what skills and abilities you
might be hiding.
#2 Try Things That Are Easy
Try
thinking, what comes naturally in your mind without thinking. Look for your
interests & passions. The time you are spending all day at something, may
come out to be your talent.
Doodling,
reading, dancing, gaming, it can be anything, just focus on what comes easiest
to you.
If
it’s hard to find by yourself, let people around you help you. Pay attention to
what other people might have noted about you. Ask your friends, family,
teachers to figure out your talent.
#3 Try Things That Are Hard
It
may sound crazy but, you should try things that scares you too. This will give
you an idea what it takes to be good at them.
Sometimes,
your fears come in action. Big challenges may lead you to big success.
There’re plenty of biographies that shows how the legends reached at the top by overcoming their fears.
#4 Follow Your Obsessions
Try
to discover the abilities & talents that might be hiding under the surface.
Some obsessions are hard to connect to a talent.
For
e.g. if you watch Movies or Series for long & love talking about them, you
may have a talent for analyzing & narratives.
#5 Keep Track of Little Success
If
you're feeling talentless, maybe it's because you've been missing out on your
own successes.
Try
to pay close attention to your successes. Think creatively about how your
little success might connect to more significant talents.
Taking
part in activities help developing skills.
For
e.g. organizing an event, it leads to leadership, planning, coordination, management,
etc. skills this may help you lead the road to your talent.
#6 Ignore TV Based Talents
Shows
like “IGT – India’s Got Talent” & other similar shows like “America’s Got
Talent” or “Britain’s Got Talent”, these shows have very narrow definitions of
what it means to be Talented.
Most
talents in these shows are Singing & Dancing as super category. This
mislead people to believe they are untalented.
But
it’s not a fault, as not all talents can be shown.
#7 Take Personality Quiz
Personality
Quizzes are often used in Job searches. But it works the same way with talent.
Learning
more about your behaviours can help you figure out more about your talent.
“Myers & Briggs” is one of famous personality quizzes, it divides people into 16 personality types. They call it “Type Table”.
#8 Talk To Your Family & Friends
One
of best ways to figure out what talents you might have is to talk to people who
know you best.
We tend
to look over our skills, often missing what makes us great, your family &
friends won’t hesitate in pointing them out.
#9 Building Talent into Skill
One
way to think, talent is natural ability to do something, that looks easy to us.
And the other way is to think talent as ability to overcome some obstacles.
When
you find your talent, it’s time to polish that talent. Work hard & overcome
every challenge in your way.
You
can take help from people already having perfection in that or similar talent.
#10 Find Talented People
If
you have got a talent for something, or if you hope to develop talent in some
field.
Surround
yourself with other talented people & learn everything you can from them.
You
would need a mentor in order to sharpen your talent.
#11 Respect Complexity of Your Talent
Developing
your talent into a skill and your skill into an ability is going to be hard.
The
more you learn, the more complicated it becomes. Commit to learning everything,
turn your talent into something special.
For
e.g. Chess, the more you learn about the game, the more there will be to learn.
#12 Practice Hard
Even
if you have got no talent in any field, practicing daily in that field
guarantees that you will get a lot better.
Remember, Hardwork beats Talent, when Talent does not work Hard.
